B-17
Calvi, February 14, 1944.
“That’s how I brought the B-17 down on the water, very close to and facing the citadel of Calvi. The plane didn’t break apart during the landing and floated for a few minutes, which gave us time to evacuate – except for the three gunners killed during the attack, whose bodies went down with the wreck”. Second Lieutenant Chaplick.
Today, the wreck of the American B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber is considered one of the most stunning wreck dives in the world. Lying upright on a sandy seabed, between 25 and 28 meters deep, it rests majestically at the foot of Calvi’s citadel. An exceptional dive, rich in history and emotion.
